New Orleans lawmakers will introduce legislation to allow campaign funds to be used for child care

Updated: Mar 11, 2019

State Legislators from New Orleans are planning to introduce legislation in the 2019 lawmaking session that will allow political candidates and elected officials to use their campaign contributions for child care.

The proposal is in response to the Louisiana Ethics Board telling candidate Morgan Lamandre that she could not use her campaign funds for child care during campaign events. The decision reversed a ruling the board made 18 years ago, when it allowed a man in elected office to use campaign money for child care.
